The 2023 MLS Free Agency list is now available. The list includes both free-agent eligible players who are no longer under contract and free-agent eligible players who are no longer under contract but have an option year remaining on their contract. MLS currently has 130 free-agent eligible players heading into the 2022-2023 offseason.
In the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), MLS players negotiated and won significant free agency gains, including lowering eligibility standards significantly to include more of the player pool, removing caps on the number of free agents teams could sign, and eliminating player exclusions based on salary.
According to the new 24 years old and 5 years of service eligibility standard, 27 percent of the current MLS player pool meets the 2023 MLS free agency eligibility threshold. Only 11% of the MLS player pool met the eligibility threshold in the final year of the previous CBA (2019).
