The newest fashion partnership in football is Stade de Rennais, a French football team, and Balenciaga, a French fashion house. Given that François-Henri Pinault is the same owner of both Balenciaga (Kering) and Stade Rennais, this collaboration makes perfect sense. But what all fans of fashion and football want to know is will there be a Cardi B or Kanye line?
Cardi B and Balenciaga
After releasing her smash summer single “WAP,” Cardi B quickly announced her collaboration with Balenciaga for the brand’s fall 2020 campaign. The rapper announced the information alongside a promotional photograph for the AW collection that reveals her as the brand’s new face. Unbelievably, this is Cardi’s debut advertisement for a high-end fashion brand and the first celebrity to be chosen for a Balenciaga commercial campaign since 2015. Balenciaga is notorious for substituting lesser-known models and creative personalities for celebrities and influencers, but this time design director Demna Gvasalia chose innovation.
Kanye models for Balenciaga
For the 2023 Paris Fashion Week presentation by Balenciaga, Kanye West made his debut on the catwalk. The businessman strutted amid the damp clumps of dirt in Parc des Expositions with the intensity of a model. Ye wore a jacket that was covered in a jumble of pockets and pouches, adhering to the stringent utilitarian ethos of the Spanish fashion brand. The look of the exhibition was reminiscent of West’s earlier undertaking with Demna (creative director of Balenciaga and a close friend of West) Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga.
Stade Rennais and Balenciaga
The House of Balenciaga will now clothe the professional athletes for European events and Ligue 1 Uber Eats home matches at Roazhon Park as part of the agreement. For the first time, Rennes wore Balenciaga-branded attire before their European match against Fenerbahce. Following Loro Piana x Real Madrid, Fendi x Roma, and Off-White x AC Milan as football x fashion partnerships for the 2022–23 season, Balenciaga x Stade Rennais is the most recent.
