Hey y’all. Here are the Champions League games that we will be watching this week. Leave a comment to let us know which of these Champions League games was your favorite and let us know if you enjoyed our sleeper game of the week:
Champions League games on Tuesday, October 19th
Atletico Madrid v Liverpool
Where: Estadio Wanda Metropolitano
Time: 3pm Eastern | 2pm Central
How to Watch: Paramount+
Atlético Madrid and Liverpool last met in the last 16 of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League, with Atletico winning both legs, 1-0 at home and 3-2 away in extra-time. Liverpool have failed to win any of their four UEFA Champions League matches against Atlético Madrid, only facing Basel as often (also four times) without winning in their European Cup/Champions League history.
Liverpool have lost six of their last seven away UEFA European matches in Spain since beating Real Madrid in the last 16 of the 2008-09 Champions League. The Reds’ last win in Spain came against fellow English opponents, beating Tottenham 2-0 in the 2019 Champions League final in Atlético’s home stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano.
PSG v RB Leipzig
Where: Parc des Princes
Time: 3pm Eastern | 2pm Central
How to Watch: Paramount+
Paris Saint-Germain will hope to secure their second consecutive victory in the Champions League when they welcome RB Leipzig to the Parc des Princes for Tuesday’s Group A battle. PSG marched to a 2-0 win over Manchester City in their last Champions League game, while the German side fell to a dampening defeat against Club Brugge.
Leipzig did manage to beat PSG 2-1 at home in the group stage last season, but Les Parisiens put things right with a 1-0 success on home soil a couple of weeks later, while the first meeting between the two clubs in the 2019-20 semi-finals ended in a comprehensive 3-0 win for the French side.
Champions League games on Wednesday, October 20th
Manchester United v Atalanta
Where: Old Trafford
Time: 3pm Eastern | 2pm Central
How to Watch: Paramount+
Manchester United welcome Italian side Atalanta to Old Trafford on Wednesday for the third Champion League game in Group F. Despite the last-gasp win against Villarreal last time out, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have failed to kick on from that and haven’t won any of their last three Premier League games. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side bounced back from the 3-2 loss against AC Milan prior to the international break with a 4-1 win at Empoli on Sunday.
Atalanta currently sit top of Group F on four points with United currently sitting in third. Just like the game against VIllarreal, the game against Atalanta could be tight and be determined by fine margins.
Sleeper Game of the Week
Ajax v Borussia Dortmund
When: Tuesday, October 19th
Where: Johan Cruijff Arena
Time: 3pm Eastern | 2pm Central
How to Watch: Paramount+
Borussia Dortmund will have the opportunity to move to the top spot in Group C of the UEFA Champions League as they take on Ajax, at the Johann Cruyff Arena on Tuesday. It is a clash between two of the group favorites as they battle it out for the top spot that could ensure a easier draw in the Round of 16.
Both the teams have started the campaign with back-to-back wins over Besiktas and Sporting CP respectively, with Ajax, in particular, raising many eyebrows with their free-scoring form so far. This promises to be an exciting encounter as the two teams look to figure out the ideal approach, in an attempt to secure a victory and become the favourite to finish top of Group C.
