[Lorenzo Insigne signs with Toronto FC]
The Italian international touched down in Toronto on Friday evening, much to the delight of the crowd at CafĂ© Diplomatico in Little Italy. Hundreds of people gathered on Clinton Street, where a stage had been set up to welcome the Italian soccer player to his new home. After answering the questions through his translator, Insigne thanked the audience and said, “All for One,” before posing for a photo.
Despite the wind, the crowd was treated to a t-shirt toss, a live DJ performance, and a nail-biting cup stacking competition before Insigne arrived. Insigne will not be registered to play for his new team until after July 7, and is expected to make his debut on July 9 against Charlotte.
[NWSL Daytona Soccer Fest]
The NWSL revved up its engines on Sunday when two teams collided on the infield of Daytona International Speedway. The Orlando Pride and Racing Louisville FC faced off at the inaugural Daytona Soccer Fest. The clubs rescheduled their regular-season match for July 2 in Orlando to a newly constructed pitch at the Daytona Motor Speedway on July 3.
In addition to the soccer match, Chance the Rapper headlined the weekend’s entertainment, which also included 2021 Latin Grammy Award winner Rauw Alejandro and Adassa from Disney’s “Encanto.”
Rox and Ken discuss these two happenings, their 4th of July weekends and more.
