MLS Game of the Week | Portland Timbers v FC Dallas
FC Dallas’ quest for points in the Pacific Northwest continues with a crucial matchup against the Portland Timbers late Saturday night. Dallas has struggled in the Pacific Northwest over the years, and the club was reminded of its struggles after a 1-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders on Tuesday night.
FCD has only one regular-season win at Portland’s Providence Park after 13 attempts (1-9-3 all-time), but the club proved it could do it two years ago with a penalty-shootout win in the first round of the 2020 playoffs. However, we are still in the regular season, so FC Dallas will need to demonstrate that they can get three points in 90 minutes in a historically difficult place to play.
Saturday’s game is a high-stakes affair. In the Western Conference, only three points separate third and eighth place. With most teams having only 10 or 11 games remaining, the playoff spots (places 1 through 7) are becoming increasingly competitive. Dallas is in fourth place with 35 points, but the Timbers, in eighth place, can leapfrog Dallas with a two-goal win. In essence, Saturday will be another six-point game, with FCD needing at least a draw to keep the odds on its side.
