Wilfred Nancy introduced as the new head coach of the Columbus Crew

Wilfried Nancy has been named the head coach of Columbus Crew. The finalist for the MLS Coach of the Year in 2022 . Nancy was most recently the head coach of CF Montreal for the 2021 and 2022 seasons before moving to Columbus.

His start date will begin when his visa is granted. The Columbus Crew and CF Montréal reached an agreement that rewards the team for Nancy’s release, the release of a few members of the coaching staff, and the Columbus Crew’s right to negotiate with those people.

Nancy steered Montreal to a 20-9-5 regular-season record in 2022, which was a club record. Montreal finished third overall in MLS and second in the Eastern Conference with a total of 65 points, just two points behind the Supporters’ Shield champions. With 20 victories, Montreal ranked second in the league, while his squad placed top five in terms of goals scored (63).

In eight games from mid-March to mid-May and again from mid-July to late-August, Montreal was undefeated. In the final 15 games of the regular season, they lost just one game and went 11-1-3. Nancy came in only one-tenth of one point behind Jim Curtain of the Philadelphia Union in the voting for the 2022 MLS Sigi Schmid Coach of the Year award.

Wilfred Nancy Coaching Career

Nancy joined the Montreal Academy in 2011, and during the next ten years, he served as head coach for the U-18s (2011–13), U-21s (2014), and U-16s (2014–15). In January 2016, he was promoted to First Team assistant, a position he held until being named head coach. The 45-year-old is licensed by the Canadian Soccer Association, UEFA, and USSF Pro. He completed the Elite Formation Coaching License (EFCL) program in 2014.

Wilfred Nancy, who was born in France, played professionally for ten years. The defender played for Sporting Club Toulon, Beaucairois, Raon-l’Etape, Ivry, Noisy-le-Sec, Chatellerault, and Orleans in France between 1995 and 2005.
